Founder | Orthodontically Trained Functional, Rehabilitative & Preventive Dentist
Dr. Todd Donnelly is the founder of Northwest Dental Centre. His calm, systems-based approach is grounded in science, precision, and an interest in helping patients maintain their oral health over the long term.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology with distinction before completing his Doctor of Dental Medicine with Dean’s Honours in 1997. He then pursued an additional year of advanced clinical training through a highly individualized externship program. This training included experience in plastic surgery, ear, nose and throat surgery, and oral and maxillofacial surgery. That interdisciplinary foundation continues to influence the way he evaluates complex concerns involving the teeth, bite, jaw, and airway.
Dr. Donnelly often works with patients who feel uncertain about what to do next. Some have received different opinions about their care. Others are living with chronic jaw or facial pain, sleep-related concerns, recurring dental problems, or a treatment plan they do not fully understand. He takes a step back, studies the broader picture, and helps patients understand what appears healthy, what may be vulnerable, and which next steps make sense.
His clinical interests span general, cosmetic, surgical, and functional dentistry. His work includes restorative and rehabilitative care, orthodontic planning, Invisalign®, airway-centred dentistry, sleep testing, TMJ and sleep apnea care, implant planning, and therapeutic and cosmetic facial injectables. His planning considers balance and proportion, along with the ways forces, breathing patterns, and oral structures may influence comfort, function, and the stability of dental treatment.
In recent years, Dr. Donnelly has expanded his work in airway health, sleep-disordered breathing, and TMJ-related head, neck, and jaw pain. Northwest Dental Centre also offers home sleep testing for suitable patients, allowing data to be collected at home rather than during an overnight visit to a sleep laboratory. The results are interpreted by a sleep physician.
Continuing education is central to Dr. Donnelly’s practice. As dentistry changes, he continues to study modern digital technology, evidence-based care, and ways to collaborate with other healthcare disciplines when appropriate. He uses new knowledge and technology when they can make care more precise and predictable.
Above all, Dr. Donnelly believes that dentistry should be transparent, calm, and empowering. He takes time to explain conditions and options so patients can make informed decisions and feel supported throughout their care.
Dr. Donnelly has called Calgary home since 1998. Outside the clinic, he enjoys spending time with his wife and son and staying active through biking, hiking, and snowboarding. He is also a recreational pilot.
