Sonia is a University of British Columbia alumna with a degree in Dental Hygiene. After completing her education, she was pleased to bring her knowledge and experience back to her hometown of Calgary.
Her interest in dentistry began when she was 15 and volunteering with marginalized communities. Seeing how limited access to dental care affected the individuals she met inspired her to pursue a career in dental hygiene and contribute to positive change.
Sonia places a high value on building strong relationships with her patients. She listens carefully, welcomes questions, and provides information with honesty and transparency. Her goal is to help patients make informed decisions about their dental health rather than leaving them uncertain about what is happening in their mouths.
In her clinical role, Sonia provides gentle and comfortable preventive care. She also helps patients understand periodontal disease, how it affects the supporting structures around the teeth, and how oral inflammation may be associated with broader health concerns. She offers practical guidance while respecting each patient’s interests, values, and individual needs.
Sonia also helped pilot the first Dental Hygiene Humanitarian Mission for the UBC Faculty of Dentistry in Vietnam. During the mission, the team provided dental care in several orphanages and helped raise awareness about oral cancer.
Outside the clinic, Sonia enjoys staying active at the gym, travelling to new places, and spending time with her family.
